Maintaining Good Posture

Creating a habit of maintaining good posture doesn’t happen in a day, but small steps can be taken to help you improve your posture day by day. Chiropractors encourage patients to work on their posture in order to help with back, neck, and leg pain. Stretches, posture ergonomics, and chiropractic treatment can help you stand taller and pain-free.

1- Exercise Regularly

The best way to work on your posture is to have consistent physical activity. Yoga and pilates can help you notice how you already hold your body and show you where you need to work on your balance or stamina. Exercise can help with muscle toning and improve your strength which will help you hold your weight properly.

2- Wear Comfortable Low-Heeled Shoes

Wearing the right shoes during work, exercise, or recreation, will help you maintain good posture and limit other pain points. Support for your legs and feet can prevent pinched nerves, and muscle strains, and will help you maintain good posture. The right shoes help to keep your center of gravity aligned and prevent slouching or unbalanced walking.

3- Talk Walks While At Work

Working at an office job can cause stress on your body and ruin your posture. Keeping a good sitting posture is important while working at a desk, but taking walks at work will help keep your spine in the correct position and prevent hunching over.

While walking, you can work on your walking and standing posture. Picture your head attached to a string and to the ceiling directly above you, keeping your head facing forward and not looking down at the ground. This simple visualization will help with maintaining good posture.

4- Carry Your Bag Correctly

If you constantly carry a backpack or purse, you can maintain good posture by limiting weight in the bag and carrying purses in a cross-body style. This will help distribute the weight evenly and prevent shoulder pain, back pain, or neck pain. It may be hard to avoid carrying a bag, so making sure to distribute the weight and avoid wearing the pack for too long will help maintain good posture.

5- Work On Text Neck

With the constant use of cell phones today, text neck is almost inevitable. The constant looking down causes hunching and affects your posture even after you have stopped looking at your device. Working to improve text neck can start with just moving your phone to more eye level while you are sitting or standing. This will keep your spine in the right position and prevent wear on your muscles.

6- Keep A Healthy Weight

The weight you carry can affect your posture if not balanced correctly. Those who are overweight may have a hard time holding their heads high or may experience pain in their legs and back because of the extra weight. More weight can weaken abdominal the muscles, pelvis, and spine. These weakened points in your body can make maintaining good posture difficult.

7- Be Aware Of Your Posture Throughout The Day

Working to improve your posture starts with being aware of how you are sitting and standing throughout the day. If you are more aware of when your posture starts to slip, you will be able to correct it. Over time, you will not have to think about perfecting your posture, and maintaining good posture will just come naturally.

Forming a habit takes time and practice. While you are working on better posture, it may seem like a lot of work to notice what position your body is in at all times, but once you start to do it, your muscle memory will make it less taxing.

A traumatic brain injury or concussion can take years to properly heal, or cause lifelong side effects that will alter the way you function from day to day. There are around 300,000 concussions each year most of which are from sport-related injuries and can often go unreported. Traumatic brain injuries can cause memory loss, epilepsy, and other ailments. Proper chiropractic care can help limit the amount of brain damage you experience and heal your body in a holistic manner. If you have experienced a concussion or other traumatic brain injury, contact Elevate Wellness today to see what we can do for you.

Accidents That Can Cause Brain Injuries

While the most common cause of brain injuries in sports or car accidents, there are other causes that some may not be aware of. Some causes of traumatic brain injuries include:

  • Serious falls
  • Firearm-related injuries
  • Auto accidents
  • Oxygen deprivation
  • Near drowning
  • Infections
  • Poisoning
  • Stroke
  • Tumors

While this list is not exhaustive, these experiences should warrant a visit to a hospital or doctor to ensure that you have not developed a brain injury. Once you have been diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury you may feel hopeless, but chiropractic care has been found to have numerous benefits for those with brain issues.

The Role Of Neuroplasticity

Your brain is built to be flexible and adapt and can benefit from chiropractic care. Your brain can create new neuropathways and have physiological changes from interactions with the environment around you. Neuroplasticity plays a part in the central nervous system and spinal cord injuries and neuropsychiatric disorders.

Brain healing after traumatic brain injuries comes with emotional, psychological, and lifestyle adjustments to help heal you from a traumatic brain injury. Ideal spine alignment and posture do a lot to help heal the mind and body. The brain and nervous system maintain constant communication through cerebrospinal fluid, and when it is off-kilter your brain function is affected. Chiropractic care can help connect your spine and teach your brain a new way of functioning.

The Difference Between WAD And TBI

Often after a car accident, people experience Whiplash-Associated Disorders (WAD) which can feel and look similar to a traumatic brain injury or concussion. Each condition comes with similar symptoms that patients may experience from either a WAD or mild TBI. Chiropractors will need to know the difference between which injury you have in order to best treat you.

Be An Active Participant In Your Care

The best benefit of working with a chiropractor is that you play an active role in your care. Working with multiple doctors or surgeons means you have many medical opinions and often do not know what methods are being used to treat you. Chiropractors discuss your treatment with you through each stage and only perform actions that fit with your recovery goals.

Chiropractic is also a non-invasive technique that can help your body heal from traumatic brain injuries without strong pain medication or surgery. Your spinal cord helps to keep your body communicating effectively and healing naturally. Your treatment will be completely up to you and can be combined with other treatment methods.

Elevate Wellness Chiropractic

During your first visit with us, we will discuss your health history and concerns to best design your treatment. With all of your history and diagnosis, we can create a customized care plan that will improve your condition and limit symptoms.

Elevate Wellness auto accidents in Centerville

Experiencing a car accident can come with added stress, injury, car repairs, and lasting effects. While there are many steps to take after a car accident, one you should not neglect is talking to a chiropractor. Chiropractic care after a car accident can help save you from major surgery, limit headaches, and improve your overall quality of life. Elevate Wellness works with patients after major or minor car accidents and helps to save people from surgery and pain medication.

1- Pain Management

The biggest benefit of chiropractic care after a car accident is to reduce or manage your pain. Pain from a car accident can often occur in multiple places including your neck, back, legs, arms, feet, ribs, and more. Chiropractors can help limit the pain from growing more intense and may even help relieve the pain altogether.

2- Prevent Minor Injuries From Becoming Major

Minor injuries can be improved with chiropractic care. If you leave minor injuries untreated they can turn into major injuries. Chiropractic care after a car accident can fix your injuries without the need for pain medications or surgery and stop them from taking over your physical state.

Major injuries can also be helped by chiropractic care and help many patients avoid surgery. Patients can experience a pain-free life the sooner they receive chiropractic treatment.

3- Reduce Inflammation

Being in a car accident can put pressure on your joints and cause inflammation on points like the knees, ankles, elbows, and neck. Chiropractic care works to align your spine which helps your body to communicate clearly. When your spine is aligned and communicates with your nervous system, inflammation will be reduced.

Inflammation can make your pain points worse and make it hard to move. Anti-inflammatory medication can only mask the symptoms and fatique of inflamed joints while chiropractic care after a car accident can get rid of inflammation entirely.

4- Restore Range Of Motion

Whiplash can accompany car accidents and limit your movement during daily activities. When you work with a professional chiropractor, you can heal quicker from whiplash. Being injured in an accident can also cause the loss of flexibility and result in scar tissue. Chiropractors are trained to align the joints and spinal discs so that scar tissue can not form and your flexibility can improve.

Chiropractic care after a car accident usually consists of stretches, manual alignment, or laser therapy by the chiropractor and may even include exercises or stretches that the patient performs at home.

5- Non-Invasive Treatment

Many patients want to avoid invasive surgery and strong pain medication when they experience a minor injury. Chiropractic care can help treat your injury with light spinal manipulation and does not use medication unless you are combining our care with other medical professionals. Chiropractic treatment is the best way to heal from any injuries naturally and save yourself from long-lasting effects down the road.
