At Elevate Wellness Chiropractic, we use the Webster Technique to provide chiropractic care to women during pregnancy and to children. We have found that proper chiropractic care during pregnancy does help expectant mothers maintain proper alignment and improves the birthing process. Pediatric chiropractic care is designed to aid in the child’s development. We specialize in both pregnancy and pediatric chiropractic care in our Bountiful, UT clinic.

Prenatal Chiropractic Care

A frequent question we hear is “can you get adjusted while you are pregnant?”  Our answer is that one of the most important times to be adjusted is during your pregnancy.  A woman’s body undergoes many changes during pregnancy and therefore it is essential that the nervous system is communicating effectively.  Most mothers come to us to help with their pain during pregnancy, but quickly realize that the benefits of chiropractic care are far more than just pain relief.  Here are just some of the benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy.

Pediatric Chiropractic Care

There are many people who wonder why children need chiropractic care.  Children, just like adults, can have spinal misalignments which can affect the functions of their little bodies.  In many cases, parents are not bringing their children to a chiropractor because they are in pain.  They bring their children to the chiropractor because of other issues such as, colic, reflux, ear infections, difficulty nursing, digestive issues, constipation and much more. 

Children are very resilient, but experience daily bumps, bruises, and falls.  These small traumas along with the birthing process can have a negative effect on a child’s nervous system which in turn can cause, or contribute to some of the conditions listed above.  Stress and trauma in an infant’s spine can start with the intense pressure associated with natural and cesarean births.  Other than crying, infants have no way of communicating their pain or discomfort. Most parents have no idea that chiropractic can help with many of the conditions our little ones suffer from.  

A child’s nervous system is the system that controls and regulates all other systems in the growing child’s body.  Spinal misalignment can have an effect on the nervous system. Chiropractic adjustments on an infant look very different from an adult adjustment.   The pressure we use to make an adjustment on an infant is extremely light and gentle.   By making these small and GENTLE adjustments, we can take the pressure off of the nervous system which in turn can help many of the issues we see in children.  Dr. Simmonds is a member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) and has many extra hours of training in pediatric chiropractic including training with the group EPIC pediatrics.  Besides his medical training, Dr. Simmonds is also a father and has seen the benefits of pediatric care in his children’s lives.
