Chiropractic Care
At Elevate Wellness, we focus on treating your whole body. We don’t believe in simply masking symptoms; we want to find and treat the source of your pain and dysfunction and restore your body to its proper form. We can accomplish these goals through chiropractic care.
What is Chiropractic Care?
Chiropractic care is a therapeutic treatment designed to treat problems in the musculoskeletal and nervous systems. It is sometimes referred to as spinal manipulation or joint manipulation. Through this treatment, we can help patients find relief from back, neck, joint, arm, and leg pain, as well as headaches and migraines. We can also help you improve your posture.
Chiropractic care involves making adjustments. When chiropractors adjust your back, they use their hands or small instruments to apply quick, controlled force to a joint or stretch a joint to help align the vertebrae in your spine if they are off center and solve any subluxations, which is when a joint is partially pushed or pulled out of its normal position.
You may feel and hear popping or cracking sounds when getting adjusted. These are gases, such as oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide, being released from your joints. It’s completely normal and should be no cause for alarm.
Do Adjustments hurt?
If you have a really inflamed section of your body, you may feel some discomfort while being adjusted; you may also feel a bit sore or stiff after treatment. However, you should not feel any severe or throbbing pain. You should only feel a release of tension or pressure in the part of your body being treated.
You can apply ice to the treated parts of your body to relieve any soreness or stiffness if you feel uncomfortable.
The Gonstead Technique
The Gonstead Technique, named after its creator, Dr. Clarence Gonstead, focuses on the core foundation and intervertebral discs. He believed that in order for you to have maximum balance and stability, you need to have your pelvis, vertebrae, and legs level. This technique allows chiropractors to focus on intervertebral misalignments, motion disturbances, and nerve dysfunction.
Over time, you may develop misalignments that can separate, twist, or tilt the vertebrae and pinch or compress nerves, leading to pain. These subluxations can lead to a number of ailments throughout the body.
Our chiropractors will integrate the core Gonstead elements, which include:
Visualization — This involves looking at the patient carefully to document anything off between the hips, ears, and shoulders, as well as anything wrong with the patient’s posture and gait.
Instrumentation — Chiropractors will use a Nervoscope to locate areas of inflammation and where there are any subluxations.
Palpation — This is the hands-on part of the examination that helps the chiropractor locate any more subluxations or other areas of concern.
X-Rays — You will get full spine X-rays to analyze your posture and recommend corrective measures.
Patient Symptoms — Our chiropractors will take the time to listen to you, learn your health history, and understand why you are at our office.
While we focus primarily on the Gonstead Technique, we have studied and mastered several techniques to improve your spinal health and reduce nervous system interference. We also strive to stay educated about the latest technologies. As a result, we can provide many different adjustments, so don’t hesitate to let us know about an experience or technique you received in the past that helped you; we can deliver what you are looking for and more.

What to Expect
When you visit our office, we will discuss your health history and perform an examination. Our examination process will include X-rays, a series of tests, including use of the nervoscope, and analysis. Dr. Simmonds will sit down and discuss the current health issues you are experiencing and creating a specialized treatment plan, which may include more appointments and stretches or exercises to complete at home.
