Our Chiropractic Technique

We have studied and mastered a number of chiropractic techniques in order to improve spinal biomechanics and reduce nervous system interference.  We use some of chiropractics latest technologies and practice one of the safest chiropractic techniques.  With this being said, we often have patients who have experienced a particular type of adjustment in the past and as a result of our extensive education of chiropractic techniques, we are able to deliver what you are looking for and more.

We use a number of highly-effective adjusting approaches to help improve spinal biomechanics and reduce nervous system interference. The approach we use is based on our clinical judgment and years of experience.

Gonstead Technique

Named after its developer, Dr. Clarence Gonstead, this approach came from his engineering background. His “foundation principle” explains how a vertebral subluxation pattern in one area of the spine can produce compensatory changes in another.

After studying your health history, we perform a complete examination. This generally includes orthopedic tests, full spine X-rays and precise analysis. We utilize your X-rays on every visit. X-rays are essential for us to be able to give you the highest quality and most specific care.

Using a small heat-sensing instrument called the nervoscope, vertebral subluxation patterns are revealed by slight differences in temperature. We look for “hot spots” in your spine with this nervoscope.

There are several methods used for giving the chiropractic adjustments which gives us an advantage as a chiropractor using the Gonstead technique. We are able to tailor each individual to a specific way of adjusting with the proper equipment. Finally, we use our fingertips to “palpate” or feel the location of individual bones and how they may differ from their normal position.

Gonstead Is Safe And Effective

The Gonstead Technique is acknowledged as one of the safest systems of evaluating and caring for the spine. If you’ve been to a chiropractor before and prefer to be adjusted in a particular way, let Dr. Simmonds know. We want you to relax, enjoy and fully benefit from your chiropractic care. Extremity Adjusting

Most chiropractors are capable of applying corrective adjustments to the spine, but at Simmonds Chiropractic and Wellness we have extensive training in extremity adjusting, especially those pertaining to sports and occupational injuries.  Here are some of the extremities that we treat.

Feet/Ankles Adjustment

Each foot has 26 bones, and have have a tendency to become fixated with the normal stresses of everyday life, including walking, running and standing. Our adjustments quickly restore motion in the joints of the foot and ankle and provide proper alignment to those joints.

Sprained ankles are extremely common injuries in all weight bearing sports and everyday life. Timely adjusting after these injuries along with proper rehab protocols can speed healing and reduce the likelihood of future recurrences of the same injury.

Restoring proper foot function through adjustments and stabilizing footwear can help reduce foot pain, ankle pain, shin splints, knee pain, hip pain, and even low back pain!!

Knees Adjustment

Knees are a common site of pain in the body, and it may or may not be caused by an injury. We will help determine if there is any significant structural damage that may require a referral to other practitioners. Then we will help to identify the source of the pain. Sometimes knee pain is not a problem in the knee but a problem in other parts of the body, such as the low back or an ankle.  A simple adjustment to the knees can quickly diminish pain.

Hips Adjustment

When people have problems in their hips, it is mostly pain or lack of mobility.  As with knees, there could be many causes for hip pain.  A simple adjustment to the hip itself, low back, knee or ankle can often fix hip pain.

Shoulders Adjustment

The shoulder is one of the most complex joints in the human body that has many structures that can cause pain or other symptoms when damaged. The shoulder can can cause pain that travels up into the neck or down into the arm and hand. Adjustments that restore proper alignment to the shoulder complex can greatly help to reduce pain and increase range of motion in this joint.

Ribs Adjustment

The ribs serve as a protective cage around our internal organs. There are many joints in the rib cage that have to be functioning correctly for proper breathing and motion of the torso. If these joint become dysfunctional from sleeping awkwardly, twisting or trauma, it could cause significant pain and discomfort.  An adjustment to restore proper position and motion of the rib joints can help reduce this pain.

TMJ Adjustment

TMJ is the Temporal-mandibular joint, aka the jaw. The jaw is the most powerful joint in the human body that has an incredible amount of neurology in and around the area. Symptoms of jaw issues may include pain, clicking, inability to open or close the mouth fully, grinding of the teeth, headaches and ringing in the ears. These symptoms may arise from chewing certain foods, trauma, awkward sleeping positions, or even dental work! Jaw issues go hand-in-hand with neck issues, and can be adjusted to help correct or reduce these symptoms.

Elbows Adjustment

The most common elbow injuries come from overuse or repetitive motions that cause pain on the inside or outside of the elbow.  Other conditions include weakness, burning numbness or tingling into the forearm and hands.  Specific adjustments to the elbow joint can correct misalignment issues and provide relief from elbow symptoms.

Wrist/Hand Adjustment

Carpal tunnel syndrome is usually due to compression of the median nerve as it passes through the carpal tunnel.  It can be caused by an increase in the size of the contents of the carpal tunnel or a decrease in the size of the carpal tunnel itself.  A decrease in the size of the carpal tunnel is often caused by misalignments of the carpal bones in your wrist that make up the tunnel. Also, in many cases, the underlying cause is a misalignment of one or more joints of your neck, shoulder or elbow.  Pinpointing what joints are involved and correcting the misalignments can prevent surgery. Minor wrist sprains can also be helped by chiropractic adjustments.
